Renaissance music is a touchstone of the Reformation. But what did this 16th century music – that was so important to Martin Luther – sound like?
The concert, “Luther’s New World - Reforming Europe’s Song,” will answer this question in a most unforgettable way.
Come for a journey into the fascinating, exotic musical world of the Reformation, performed on period instruments and sung in Renaissance style by soft candlelight in a serene architectural masterpiece.
We will see how Luther drew upon sacred and secular music of Germany, France, Italy, and England to reform Europe’s music and revive and inspire congregational singing. The audience will have the opportunity to join the performers in singing some of the most beautiful hymns ever written.
The concert features the Elm Quintet (Sally Messner, Rebekah Schulz, Josh Messner, Craig Lemming, and Bjorn Arneson), the Terpsichore Ensemble (Clea Galhano, recorder, Phillip Rukavina, lute, and Mary Burke, viola da gamba), organist Robert Farlee, and narrator Roger Gomoll.
Tickets will be available at the door for $20 and $10 for students. Sponsored by Friends of Christ Church Lutheran; all proceeds go to the preservation of the building. For more information, call 651-797-2161.
